Caterina van Hemessen (1528 – after 1587) was a Flemish Renaissance painter.
This second work, painted when the artist was just 20 years old, is one of the earliest surviving self portraits in oils by a female painter. It is also thought to be the first self portrait to depict a painter sitting before an easel.

From 'Raoul De Keyser. Replay. Gemälde/Paintings 1964-2008'.
De Keyser (1930-2012) was a member of the Flemish movement 'Nieuwe Visie', led by Roger Raveel. Through painting they tried to revaluing everyday reality. In the case of Raoul: an everyday - but always pure - beauty.
