Haus der Kulturen der Welt in 1980

Haus der Kulturen der Welt or the Schwangere Auster. It was a gift from the United States, designed in 1957 by the American architect Hugh Stubbins as a part of the International Building Exhibition. On May 21, 1980 the roof collapsed.

In Berlin we visited "Hansaviertel", a modern housing estate project constructed for the 1957 International Building Exhibition. It is located near Tiergarten and was designed by master architects like Alvar Aalto, Egon Eiermann, Walter Gropius, Oscar Niemeyer etc.
