Haus der Kulturen der Welt in 1980




Haus der Kulturen der Welt or the Schwangere Auster. It was a gift from the United States, designed in 1957 by the American architect Hugh Stubbins as a part of the International Building ExhibitionOn May 21, 1980 the roof collapsed.

In Berlin we visited "Hansaviertel", a modern housing estate project constructed for the 1957 International Building Exhibition. It is located near Tiergarten and was designed by master architects like Alvar AaltoEgon EiermannWalter GropiusOscar Niemeyer etc.
